Dalmore Cromartie 1996 Vintage Lands of Clan Mackenzie Single Highland Malt Whisky 45%

Dalmore Cromartie 1996 Vintage Single Highland Malt Whisky 45% is an exclusive limited edition and the third release in the prestigious Clan Mackenzie Series. The series pays tribute to Dalmore distillery’s close historical connection to Clan Mackenzie, whose emblem – the iconic 12‑point stag – adorns every bottle.

This single malt was distilled in 1996 and first matured in American white oak casks before receiving a final maturation in Oloroso sherry casks. The combination delivers a classic Dalmore profile with elegance, depth, and sherry‑driven complexity. Bottled at 45% ABV, it highlights the flavor nuances without compromising balance and finesse.

In the glass, the whisky appears deep golden with amber reflections. The aroma is rich and inviting with notes of dried fruits, orange peel, dark chocolate, and caramel, accompanied by warm spices and a hint of roasted nuts. The characteristic Dalmore sweetness is elegantly tied together with the fullness of the sherry cask.

On the palate, it is full‑bodied and silky smooth with layers of raisins, prunes, and ripe fruit, followed by vanilla, spices, and dark cocoa. The Oloroso sherry adds depth and structure, while the American oak contributes balance, sweetness, and a rounded mouthfeel.

The finish is long, warm, and harmonious with lingering notes of fruit, spices, and light oak. Dalmore Cromartie 1996 is a sophisticated and collectible whisky that combines classic Highland style with Dalmore’s luxurious expression.

A significant part of the proceeds from the original sale of each bottle went to Clan Mackenzie to support the preservation of their historic ancestral seat, Castle Leod, giving this release both cultural and historical importance.

Dalmore The distillery is said to have been founded in 1839. It was owned for almost a hundred years by a noble local family - the Clan Mackenzies - whose castle is located in the nearby town of Strarhpeffer. Dalmore takes its 'royal' antlers from the family's coat of arms. The progenitor of the Mackenzie clan saved King Alexander III from being gored by a wild stag, and the grateful king bestowed him with title and estate, allowing him to wear this noble symbol on his shield. The latest slogan for 'The Dalmore ' is also taken from the Mackenzie coat of arms 'Luceo non uro' which means 'Shine not Burn'. The name Dalmore is Old Gaelic and means 'The Great Meadow'. Founded in 1839 by Alexander Matheson, the distillery is located on the coast at Cromarty Firth, overlooking the rich and fertile 'great meadow' of the Black Isle. The clean, clear water used for Dalmore Malt Whisky is taken from the nearby River Alness. The Dalmore It's a whisky that satisfies all your senses, with a long, generous finish that makes Dalmore one of the classic Highland malts.

Each Dalmore malt whisky has its own unique personality. Chocolate and spice are just 2 of the special and unexpected aromas that appear in Dalmore. In a Dalmore whisky you will recognize up to 26 distinctly different and often surprising aromas.
