Red cardboard, white snowflakes and a little To and From gift tag printed on the lid. Inside the box sit twelve cans from BrewDog in Scotland, running from crisp Lost Lager to the dark, cocoa-laced Cocoa Reserve. Christmas rarely arrives this hoppy in a cardboard box.

Expert description of BrewDog 12 Beers of Christmas Mixed Pack Beer

BrewDog 12 Beers of Christmas is a mixed pack of twelve 33 cl cans, brewed and canned in Ellon, Scotland. It pulls together the brewery's regulars, such as Punk IPA, Lost Lager, Hazy Jane, Wingman and Elvis Juice, alongside a run of seasonal and newer names. All twelve are listed on the side of the box, so you know what is waiting before you open it.

Hops take the lead. Punk IPA, Hazy Jane and Elvis Juice bring tropical fruit and citrus. Hoppy Christmas is brewed with Simcoe and lands on citrus, papaya and pineapple over a firm malt base. Jingle Juice is a hazy, juicy beer with pineapple, Seville orange and apricot, while Hazy Jane Tropical adds passionfruit and mango. Lost Lager is a clean, crisp Pilsner, and Wingman is a light Session IPA.

Strength runs from 4.0% in Palm Break up to 8.0% in Emerald Daze and Cocoa Reserve. The latter is the dark heart of the box, a chocolate stout with roasted hazelnut, vanilla and cocoa, where oats give a soft, velvety body. Both Cocoa Reserve and Hazy Jane Tropical are brewed with milk sugar.

    Tasting notes

    Aroma of the Beers

Citrus and tropical fruit lead the way: grapefruit and orange from Elvis Juice, pineapple and papaya from Hoppy Christmas, passionfruit and mango from Hazy Jane Tropical. Cocoa Reserve smells of cocoa, vanilla and roasted hazelnut.

    Taste of the Beers

The palate moves from dry and crisp in Lost Lager to juicy and fruity in Hazy Jane and Jingle Juice, where Seville orange and apricot add warmth. Hoppy Christmas brings bright, tangy citrus over a firm malt body. Cocoa Reserve is dark toffee, caramel and baked notes with a velvety mouthfeel.

    Finish of the Beers

The hoppy beers close on bitterness, clearest in Hoppy Christmas. Cocoa Reserve ends soft and earthy, with a bite from Columbus hops.
