About Jameson Black Barrel

According to our product page, Jameson Black Barrel is a triple distilled Irish whiskey at 40 %. It is matured in first-fill bourbon and sherry casks, meaning casks that have only been used once before. That gives a more intense cask character than Jameson Original. The nose is rich and full with sherry notes, and the palate is caramel and spice with a full, long finish.

About Cointreau Noir

According to our product page, Cointreau Noir is a French orange liqueur at 40 %, made from about 70 % classic Cointreau and 30 % cognac, macerated with walnuts and almonds. It is described as a darker and drier take on the well-known Cointreau, with orange peel, vanilla and honey on the nose and a light nutty character on the palate.

Bødkerens Dram and the Old Fashioned

We have not found any documented history for Bødkerens Dram itself. The old-fashioned classic does have one. Wikipedia writes that the first known definition of the word cocktail is from 1806, where it is described as a strong mix of spirits, bitters, water and sugar. An Old Fashioned is made from whiskey, sugar, bitters and water.

Tips for your Bødkerens Dram

Stir to taste, as the recipe says. Taste it, and add a little more syrup if you find it too dry. Use big ice cubes so the drink does not water down too fast. If you like, make it in a shaker instead.

My verdict on Bødkerens Dram

This is a drink for people who like whiskey and want something more than neat whiskey. The sherry and caramel from Jameson Black Barrel stand strong, and the orange from Cointreau Noir rounds it off. It is easy to make and does not need many things.
