Blå Isbjørn and the Blue Lagoon

We have not found any documented origin for the name Blå Isbjørn. The drink does resemble the Blue Lagoon, which is made from vodka, blue curaçao and lemonade. Wikipedia mentions that Harry’s New York Bar in Paris claims to have invented the Blue Lagoon, without giving a year. The standard recipe Wikipedia gives is 5 cl vodka, 2 cl blue curaçao and 10 cl lemonade, so the same proportions as here, just in a bigger serving. You can read more on Wikipedia. See our range of Curacao and vodka here.

About ELG Vodka

At first glance vodka is one of the simplest spirits in the world, as vodka consists of water and alcohol. Nothing else, when it comes to ultimate quality. Still, more and more exclusive vodka brands keep appearing, as this very simple drink lives first and foremost on its purity. The water is a decisive factor, but it is first and foremost the quality of the alcohol that is critical for the finished result.

The precision of the distillation decides how pure the finished vodka tastes and smells. Elg-Spirits grain alcohol is based on wheat and is of the highest quality. Elg-Spirits also takes a completely new path to develop the purest possible spirit. In the final distillation the alcohol vapours pass through two specially developed filters of 24 carat gold to ensure an optimally pure distillate. Elg Vodka is made in small batches of 625 bottles, on a German handmade copper column still. All processes in vodka production are manual, where precision, care and good craftsmanship go hand in hand with high-tech quality assurance.

Tips for your Blå Isbjørn

Pour the Blue Curaçao in slowly at the end, so it settles as a blue tone at the bottom of the glass and the colour does not mix right away. Use plenty of ice and serve it right away. For a bigger serving you can double the amounts.

My verdict on Blå Isbjørn

It is made for festivals and parties where you want something simple, cold and blue without needing a shaker. The taste is sweet and citrusy, so it suits those who do not want too much vodka to taste. Also try the blue frozen margarita if you want more blue in the glass.
