In a former Jaguar workshop on Södermalm in Stockholm, Anna and Calle Wikner started the city's first craft gin distillery in 2015. Oak Gin is their answer to what happens when classic gin is left to rest in used whisky barrels.

    Expert's description

Stockholms Bränneri Organic Oak Gin is a Swedish Gin distilled with orange peel and long pepper, rested on bourbon barrels, and bottled at 45%.

The distillery was founded by the couple Anna and Calle Wikner, inspired by their time in Canada, where they encountered a thriving scene of small distilleries that doubled as community gathering spots.

All production is organic and small-scale, with every bottle hand-filled and given its own unique batch and bottle number.

After distillation, the gin rests in used bourbon barrels, adding a soft vanilla note that ties in with the classic orange and pepper character from the distillation.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose is warm and spiced with orange peel and a light vanilla note from the bourbon barrel.

    Palate

The palate is round with juniper and long pepper up front, backed by a soft vanilla sweetness from the barrel ageing.

    Finish

The finish is warm and woody, with a last trace of vanilla and spice.
