Mint, molasses and dry wood. Panama 2012 smells fresh, tastes tight and finishes in a long, round caramel.
Expert Description
S.B.S Panama 2012 Bourbon Cask is a Panamanian Rum matured in an ex-Bourbon cask and bottled at cask strength, 55%. It is a single cask rum made from molasses and distilled in a column still in 2012. 1423 World Class Spirits bottled it in January 2024 as part of the S.B.S Single Barrel Selection series, non chill filtered.
The palate is dry and rich in tannin. The tannins come from the oak and give that tight, slightly grippy feel in the mouth you know from strong tea. Vanilla sweetness and a hint of white pepper soften it, and in the end it is the caramel that stays.
Only 282 bottles were filled, all of them bottled exclusively for the Danish market.

The word tannin goes back to tanning leather, where people used substances from oak bark. It is the same stuff that makes a rum dry in the mouth.
