Vanilla and coconut first, then apricot and honey. Barbados 2013 is a rum where pot still and column still shared the work.

    Expert Description

S.B.S Barbados 2013 Bourbon and Moscatel Cask is a Barbados Rum matured in ex-Bourbon and Moscatel casks and bottled at cask strength, 52%. It is a single cask rum made from molasses and distilled in both pot still and column still in 2013. After 12 years in cask, 1423 World Class Spirits bottled it in September 2025 as part of the S.B.S Single Barrel Selection series, non chill filtered.

Moscatel is a sweet wine made from muscat grapes, and its cask has added a fruity stamp with pear, dried apricot and orange peel. The Bourbon cask brings vanilla and coconut, and toasted oak gives spice.

The flavour is full and dry, and only 198 bottles were filled.

Frequently Asked Questions About S.B.S Barbados 2013 Bourbon and Moscatel Cask

What does S.B.S Barbados 2013 taste like?

Vanilla, coconut, toasted oak, apricot and honey on the nose. On the palate it is full and dry with toffee, spicy oak, pear, dried apricot and orange peel, and it ends fruity.

What does a Moscatel cask do to a rum?

Moscatel is a sweet wine made from muscat grapes. A cask that has held it can add fruity sweetness, which here shows up as pear, apricot and orange peel on top of the vanilla from the Bourbon cask.

What does it mean that the rum is distilled in both pot still and column still?

Pot still typically gives a heavier, spicier rum, and column still a lighter one. Here the two are blended, so the rum has both body and a cleaner line.

How do you serve a Barbados Rum at 52%?

Neat at room temperature in a whisky glass. A few drops of water open up the nose and let the coconut and apricot come forward.

What goes well with S.B.S Barbados 2013?

Dried apricot, dark chocolate and orange peel mirror the flavour. Caramel cakes or a soft cheese work too.

    What is S.B.S?

S.B.S stands for Single Barrel Selection and is a series of single cask bottlings from 1423 World Class Spirits, a Danish company that selects casks from distilleries around the world instead of distilling itself.
