A flash of humour in an otherwise serious discipline - the Riedel Black Tie Smile Decanter has a shape meant to catch the eye, hand-made by glassblowers working within Riedel's most exclusive series.
The Expert's Description
Riedel Black Tie Smile Decanter 2009/01S3 is a hand-blown crystal glass wine decanter from the Austrian glassmaker Riedel, defined by its playful, asymmetrical shape as part of the brand's exclusive Black Tie series.
Riedel has been making glass since 1756, and the family business is now run by its 11th generation of glassmakers and designers. The Black Tie series belongs to Riedel's "Fatto a Mano" decanters, where each individual piece is shaped by a glassblower rather than a machine. The Smile name points to the decanter's playful, curved shape, which sets it apart from the more classic Black Tie models. If you need the right bottle for the decanter, browse our range of Red Wine.
Design & Material
The decanter is hand-blown in crystal glass and stands 36.5 cm tall. The playful, curved shape makes it one of the more unconventional decanters in Riedel's range, where every piece carries small, natural variations from the glassblower's hand.
Use & Recommendation
The decanter works well for decanting full-bodied red wines that need air, but it works just as well as a striking, playful serving piece at a party or special dinner. Because the decanter is hand-blown, we recommend washing it carefully by hand in warm water.
