There's a particular kind of light that pours out of Málaga, and somehow it found its way into this glass. Redbreast has always known its way around a sherry butt — this time it went looking for sunshine instead.

    Expert's Description

Redbreast Moscatel Wine Cask Edition is a Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey, first matured in a combination of ex-bourbon casks and Spanish oloroso sherry casks, then finished for 16 months in Moscatel wine casks, bottled at 46%.

It's the fifth release in the acclaimed Iberian Series, and the first ever to use a Moscatel finish. The casks come from Bodegas Quitapenas in Málaga, a family-run bodega with roots stretching back to 1880, now led by fifth-generation custodians Marta Suárez Prieto and Víctor Suárez Onrubia. The Moscatel wine itself spent 24 months in American oak before the casks were emptied and shipped on to Midleton Distillery, where they've been shaping Redbreast's pot still spirit since June 2024.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Fresh and floral, with zesty tangerine and orange peel, dustings of nutmeg and a base of rich, creamy vanilla oak.

    Palate

Vibrant, ripe fruit meets toffee and honeycomb, with subtle dried herbs running underneath and the oak keeping everything anchored.

    Finish

Long and spiced, with the classic pot still character and a wine-seasoned sweetness that lingers well after the last sip.

Frequently Asked Questions about Redbreast Moscatel Wine Cask Edition

What does Redbreast Moscatel Wine Cask Edition taste like?

It's sweet and citrus-driven with a clear Moscatel signature. The nose brings tangerine and orange blossom, the palate moves into toffee and honeycomb, and the finish holds onto the classic pot still spice for a long time.

What makes this edition different in the Iberian Series?

It's the first time Redbreast has used Moscatel casks in the series. Earlier releases leaned on PX, Lustau, and tawny port sherry casks, so this one brings a sweeter, more floral wine character from Málaga into the mix.

Is Redbreast Moscatel Wine Cask Edition worth it?

Yes, if you value craftsmanship and rarity. It's a limited release from one of the most respected names in Irish whiskey, made in partnership with a bodega with over 140 years of history — not a bottle that comes back around.

Should it be served neat or with ice?

It works best neat or with a single ice cube, so the Moscatel sweetness doesn't get lost. Pour it in a proper whisky glass and you'll follow the aromas all the way from nose to finish.

What exactly is Single Pot Still Whiskey?

It's a distinctly Irish style made from a mash of both malted and unmalted barley, distilled together in traditional copper pot stills, giving it more body and oiliness than a typical single malt.

Does it make a good gift?

Yes, especially for someone who already knows Redbreast or loves sherried whiskey with a twist. If the recipient is newer to Irish whiskey, our full Irish Whiskey range is worth browsing for other ideas too.

How many bottles were produced of this edition?

Redbreast hasn't published an exact number for this release, but it's marketed as a limited, time-bound edition — once it's gone from the shelves, it's gone.
