Poli Grappa di Sassicaia Jacopo Edizione Speciale 30 Anni – Gift Box with 2 Glasses – 50CL / 40%
One spring afternoon in 1993, a young grappa maker from Veneto sat in the lobby of a hotel in Milan and asked for the hand of the most beautiful creature in Tuscan wine culture. Thirty years later, Jacopo Poli and the Incisa della Rocchetta family celebrate their collaboration with this edition — majestic as the cypress avenue of Bolgheri, captured in a bottle.
This is the anniversary edition “30 anni insieme” — 30 years together — marking three decades of partnership between Poli Distillerie and Tenuta San Guido, the estate behind the legendary Sassicaia. The grappa is distilled from fresh pomace of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, the same grapes used for one of the world’s most acclaimed red wines. This edition comes in a wooden gift box together with two hand‑blown crystal glasses, making it perfect to give — or keep for yourself.
The raw material is the pressings from Sassicaia production, distilled in a copper pot still with steam heating in a discontinuous cycle — one of the oldest methods still in use in Italy. The heart cut is made cleanly, so only the finest aromas remain. The grappa then matures for four years in barriques, finishing with six months in the oak casks that previously held Sassicaia wine. This finish gives it its aristocratic character — the casks impart vanilla, spice and a soft depth, and the grappa inherits a touch of the wine’s soul.
Nose: Delicate and floral at first, then it opens with dried fruit, vanilla, cocoa, coffee and a hint of liquorice root. Dark berries — redcurrant and blueberry — lie underneath.
Palate: Structured and vinous, full‑bodied and warm. Spirit‑soaked fruit, sweet spices and roasted notes of freshly ground coffee. Maestoso, as Jacopo himself would say.
Finish: Long, soft and elegant with roasted tones and a rounded, vinous tail.
Flavour profile: Oaky · Spicy · Vinous · Fruity · Creamy

Investment potential: Low to medium. An anniversary edition with gift box and glasses has collector appeal, and the Sassicaia name carries weight, but grappa generally has a limited secondary market compared to whisky. This is more of a gift and enjoyment bottle than an investment object.
Did you know? The idea for a “Sassi on the rocks” came about almost by accident. Marchese Incisa della Rocchetta — known for drinking whisky with ice — suggested Jacopo try the grappa with a couple of ice cubes. Poli hesitated (“you simply don’t do that!”), but gave in. The cold didn’t mute the aromas — it opened them. Since then, Jacopo has enjoyed his own grappa over ice.
