Nikka Yoichi 15 Year Single Malt Japanese Whisky 70 cl 45%

On the nose, a powerful blend of pure wood, rich sweetness, and subtle sherry is revealed. The palate offers a complex combination of peat, sweetness, and dryness, accompanied by fruit notes like white peach, nuts, and dried grass. The elegant finish includes dark chocolate, coffee, and fresh fruits.

Yoichi Distillery, founded by Masataka Taketsuru in 1934, is known for its smoky flavor that honors his Scottish heritage. With an ideal climate for whisky production, Yoichi continues to uphold his traditions.

    Yoichi single malt 15 years

Jim Murray - notes: Aroma: Powerful clean wood, heavy sweetness and subtle sherry Taste: Peaty, bitter/sweet, mouthwatering, complex, dry and with a long finish. An outstanding malt from Yoichi and these bottlings never cease to surprise. Cask and whisky have indeed "married" in this bottling. Another surprising Japanese. Nose: Fresh and soft, it is characterized by fruit notes (white peach) on a thick peat base. A pleasant softness that combines aromas of nuts (pecan), lacquer, and dried grass (hay, tobacco leaves). Taste: Sweet and sour notes of barley, sugar and salt. It develops with floral, menthol, anise, spices (clove, pepper) and chocolate. Aftertaste: Elegant, bitter chocolate and mocha flavours emerge, as well as notes of coffee and citrus fruits (orange). It finishes with fresh fruit notes (white pear).

From the Yoichi Distillery built in 1934 by the "father of the Japanese whisky industry" - Masataka Taketsuru - who studied the "art of whisky" at Glasgow University in 1918 and at Hazelburn Distillery, Campbeltown, Craigellachie Distillery, Speyside and Lagavulin Distillery, Islay. So it's no wonder that the Yoichi malt is quite smoky in flavour. And even though Taketsuru died in 1979, Nikka Distillers has preserved his ideas about malt production and taste. He worked for Suntory, but since they weren't interested in building a malt whisky distillery in Japan, he did it himself. He found the perfect location on the island of Hokkaido. Near the winter sports city of Sapporo - the distillery is located. With very long cold winters - it's not uncommon to see snow on the barrels in the warehouses. A perfect climate for whisky production. "The best distillery in all of Asia", as Jim Murray writes in Lademann's Whiskybog. Yoichi Distillery is surrounded by mountains on 3 sides and the 4th side faces the Sea of Japan. Only 70 kilometers away is an active volcano.
