Mjødgård Gift Box is a collection of four Danish Meads from the Mjødgård brewery in Haslev, all from the 2024 vintage and ranging between 13 and 14% ABV. Mjødgård has been brewing since 2008 and builds its entire production around natural fermentation and local raw materials from South Zealand – no shortcuts, no additives, just honey, water and time. The box brings together four expressions from the brewery's range: Engmjød is brewed on meadowsweet and represents the classic, herbal style. Hyldemjød draws on elderflower for a lighter, more floral character. Skovmjød is made with forest berries and oak, carrying both fruit and a light wood structure from the start. Ren Mjød stands apart as it's matured in oak casks, giving it a rounder, drier and more complex profile than the other three, which are meant to be enjoyed young and fresh.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Aromas run from fresh elderflower and herbs to ripe forest berries, with a hint of warm oak from the cask-aged bottle. Honey runs as a common thread through all four.

Palate

On the palate the experience shifts between light and floral, sweet and berry-driven, and the more structured, lightly spiced character from the oak. Sweetness is present throughout, but never cloying.

Finish

The finish is fairly short on the three young meads, while Ren Mjød lingers longer with a dry, woody edge.
