Some beers are brewed for a party. Family Tradition is brewed for a quiet evening, when time is in no hurry to go anywhere.

Expert description of Fanø Bryghus Family Tradition

Family Tradition is a powerful and complex Imperial Baltic Porter from Fanø Bryghus, brewed on a rich, dark malt base that gives it a deep colour and an intense flavour profile. At 13% ABV this is the imperial version of the classic Baltic Porter style, reinforced with an extra dimension of warmth and fullness.

The beer has been left to age in wooden barrels, which adds subtle notes of vanilla, caramel and a light smokiness. The barrel ageing also gives it a silky texture and highlights the roasted malt and chocolate-like flavours. Family Tradition is ideal as a specialty beer for special occasions, or as a finish to a meal alongside grilled meat, dark chocolate or cheese.

Fanø Bryghus is located on the West Jutland island of Fanø, where the North Sea and the island's raw nature are a clear part of the brewery's identity. The brewery makes everything from classic, golden lagers to barrel-aged specialties, and has won several awards for its craft.

Is Family Tradition worth the money?

Yes. The barrel ageing and high ABV give it a complexity that rivals far more expensive specialty beers in the genre.

What does Family Tradition taste like?

It tastes of dark chocolate, coffee and caramel, with a creamy body and a mild, well-balanced alcohol warmth.

What food pairs well with Family Tradition?

Try it with grilled meat, dark chocolate or mature cheese - or enjoy it alone as a finish to the meal.

What temperature should it be served at?

Serve it at 12-14°C in a wide snifter glass or beer glass.

    What is a Baltic Porter?

A powerful porter style rooted in the export of strong beers to the Baltic region - typically with higher ABV and deeper malt character than a standard porter.

How long can Family Tradition be stored?

This batch is best before 30/01/2035 and, as a barrel-aged imperial porter, can develop nicely over several years when stored cool and dark.
