The youngest of the house's Colheita vintages still carries a decade in cask, yet the fruit feels livelier than its older siblings - candied orange rather than deep caramel.

    Expert's Description

Dalva 2014 Colheita is a Portuguese Colheita Port from the single vintage 2014, bottled at 20%.

Unlike most other fortified wines, a Colheita carries two dates on its label - the harvest year and the bottling year - making it possible to track exactly how long a given bottle has rested in oak, in this case a decade, during which it developed its sweetness, colour and spice.

Dalva is the Port brand of the house C. da Silva, founded in Vila Nova de Gaia in 1933 by Clemente da Silva, who a year later registered the name Dalva - a contraction of his own surname. Across generations, the house has specialised in exactly this style of single-vintage Tawny.

    Tasting Notes

    Palate

Velvety with a lively acidity, offering quince paste, toasted nuts and a hint of cinnamon.

    Finish

Medium-length, spiced finish with a lingering sweetness.

Frequently Asked Questions about Dalva 2014 Colheita

    What is a Colheita Port?

What pairs well with Dalva 2014 Colheita?

Quince cheese, almonds and light caramel desserts complement the wine's fruity, spiced style nicely.

How long does an opened bottle keep?

An opened bottle typically keeps for several weeks to a couple of months when stored correctly and kept cool.

Is Dalva 2014 Colheita a good gift?

Yes, the named vintage makes it a fitting gift, especially if 2014 carries personal significance for the recipient.

What defines Dalva as a Port house?

Dalva, founded in Vila Nova de Gaia in 1933, has specialised in single-vintage Colheita Ports across several generations.
