Bold Thady Irish Whiskey is a triple‑distilled blended Irish whiskey made from grain and malt, married together in first‑fill bourbon casks and bottled at 40%. Behind the bottle stands Viaduct Spirits & Wines from County Cork, and the name is a nod to the old folk ballad about Thady Quill, who came from that very county. The recipe is classic Irish. The grain component provides the light, soft body, while the malt adds more flavour and weight. Everything is triple‑distilled, as tradition dictates in Ireland. This pulls the spirit in a clean and fruity direction, with fewer heavy, oily notes than a double‑distilled whiskey. The cask does the rest. A first‑fill bourbon cask has only held American bourbon before, so the oak still has plenty of vanilla and caramel to give — and you can taste it clearly. The whiskey is non‑chill‑filtered, allowing the natural oils to remain in the bottle.
There is no age statement, and the producer does not disclose which distillery the spirit comes from. The label deserves an extra look. Dark green background, copper‑coloured ornamentation, a small pot still at the top and a shamrock hidden at the bottom. A bottle for everyday drams, for highballs, and for those who enjoy a good story along with their glass.
Tasting notes
Nose Chocolate comes first. Then almonds and something green‑fruity — the crisp, slightly tart kind. Beneath it all lies a sweetness in no hurry.
Taste Soft on the palate. Vanilla and caramel from the bourbon casks, a roasted note midway through, and finally a touch of spice awakening on the tongue.
Finish The sweetness from the nose returns and lingers, with a little of the spice in the tail. Clean and calm.

Did you know? The real Thady Quill lived from around 1860 to 1932 and was reportedly a teetotaller. The ballad, written around 1895 by farmer and self‑appointed poet Johnny Tom Gleeson, portrays him as a beer‑swinging sportsman and ladies’ man — almost everything he wasn’t. Gleeson paid him with the song instead of wages, and Thady was apparently quite satisfied with the deal. Now he has a whiskey named after him.
