Golden color with a scent of orange peel, spices, and vanilla. Continues on the palate with heather, candied fruits, honey, and vanilla. Creamy texture and a nice long, light, and sweetish aftertaste.

Tullamore Dew 12 Year Old Special Reserve is a carefully crafted blend of old Irish whiskeys – full of complex flavours, perfectly married to give a sophisticated drinking session full of depth, character and maturity. It is a deluxe blend with "a full, smooth, well-rounded whiskey, combining maltiness and pot still character. Sweet spicy notes overlay rich woody background from the bourbon casks used in maturation".

The whiskies in the Tullamore Dew 12 Year Old Special Reserve have a very high concentration of pot still and malt in addition to grain whiskies, triple distilled between 12 and 15 years ago from unmalted as well as malted barley. It is a very fine aged whiskey with more complexity coming from the additional aging. All the whiskies in the blend are matured in old Bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks, slowly reaching their perfection. The sherry cask finish gives a sweet nuttiness to the taste. It also has pleasant spicy back notes.

The 12 Year Old Special Reserve's supreme quality has won it several international awards from whiskey connoisseurs in recent years, reinforcing the quality status of standard Tullamore Dew. It has won Double Gold medals at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2006, 2007 and 2008 as well as at the International Spirits Challenge in 2006, adding to the 10 prestigious awards since 1999. Other significant awards include the Trophy for Best Irish Whiskey at the International Spirits Challenge in 1999 and 2000.

Tullamore Dew 12 Year Old Special Reserve is a complex whiskey, well-flavoured but mellow, with clear flavours of Irish pot still and unpeated malt whiskey emerging. Followed by undertones of toasted wood from the lightly charred old bourbon casks giving way to the sweet nuttiness derived from the old Oloroso Spanish sherry butts. The overall impression is of a well flavoured Irish whiskey mellowed by age with just a touch of spicy tones on the palate followed by a finish which is pleasantly dry.

The result, according to the Master Blender is: 'A well flavoured Irish whiskey, mellowed by age, with just a touch of spicy piquancy asserting itself on the palate and a finish that is dry, slightly lemony and sweet'.
