    In the basement of the old Tranum Mill from the 1800s in North Jutland, the Schade family distils their gin around the philosophy 'less is more' - a few, carefully chosen botanicals rather than a sea of flavours.

    Tranum Mølle Destilleri Spicy London Dry Gin is a Danish gin distilled on 5-6 selected botanicals and bottled at 47%.

    The gin comes from Tranum Mølle Destilleri, located in the former grain mill in the village of Tranum near Jammerbugten. Brewer Ulrik M. Schade and his family took over the site in 2001 and converted it into a modern distillery in 2018, where - unlike gins with up to 47 different botanicals - they settle for 5-6 carefully chosen ingredients per gin.

    The Spicy edition builds on this minimalist approach, letting spice take the lead alongside juniper, so each botanical stands out clearly in the glass.

For newcomers it's an accessible Danish gin with a clear local starting point; for connoisseurs it's interesting to follow how a small provincial distillery manages to establish itself in the otherwise crowded Danish gin market.

Tranum Mølle Destilleri emerged as part of the wave of small Danish micro-distilleries that have sprung up around the country in recent decades, often driven by local passion rather than big capital. The location at the old mill in Tranum gives the distillery a physical connection to the area's history, while it also produces snaps alongside the gin.
