On hot, low-lying slopes in Oaxaca grows an agave that can set seed for entire families of new plants. Mexicans call it Madre - the mother. This bottle tells its story through aroma and taste.

    Expert Description

Topanito Mezcal Madre Cuishe Blanco is a 100% Madre Cuishe Mexican Mezcal Artesanal bottled at 49%.

The mezcal is part of Topanito's Wild Series, in which the German spirits house Perola highlights rare, wild-growing agave varieties. Madre Cuishe belongs to the Karwinskii agave family and typically grows in the hot lowland zone known as tierra caliente, where the mineral-rich soil shapes its character. The agave is harvested after 12-15 years and processed by mezcaleros at the Amantes de lo Ajeno distillery in San Dionisio Ocotepec, Oaxaca, where the agave hearts are roasted in earthen pits, crushed on a traditional tahona stone mill and double distilled in copper alembic stills.
