Terra Verde A Midsummer Spirit is a Dominican sugarcane spirit (Spirit Drink) aged in bourbon casks and bottled at 40%.
The spirit is distilled from pure sugarcane juice near the town of San Pedro de Macorís in the Dominican Republic and then rests in bourbon casks, giving it a soft, lightly sweet character. Because it is distilled from cane juice rather than molasses, and does not meet every formal requirement for the term rum, it is sold as a Spirit Drink - though in the glass it behaves like a light, easy-drinking golden rum.
Terra Verde means "green earth", and the name is more than marketing. The distillery is among the most sustainable in the world, self-sufficient in green energy, and it recycles the biomass from production as natural fertiliser for its fields.
Tasting Notes
Nose
Soft and light with hints of chocolate, vanilla and a faint spiced oak base.
Palate
Round and lightly sweet with caramel, vanilla and a discreet trace of dark spice from the bourbon cask.
Finish
Long and soft, with lingering sweetness and a calm touch of oak.
