Redbreast Whiskey

Redbreast distils Ireland's pot still tradition down to its purest form — powerful, spiced and creamy all at once. The name comes from the robin the Jameson family once watched fly past their Dublin warehouses, and it remains the whiskey Irish connoisseurs keep coming back to.

  • Redbreast 12 Year Old Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey bottle
    Item no.: 22227865424-new

The world's best-selling Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey takes its name from the robin's characteristic plumage, and this 12-year-old release remains the distillery's most iconic bottle.

    Expert Review

Redbreast 12 Year Old is a Pure Pot Still Irish Whiskey matured for at least 12 years, bottled at 40%.

The whiskey combines malted and unmalted barley in the classic Irish pot still style and matures in a mix of casks. Redbreast 12 Year Old is known for its soft, fruity aroma of orange, heather and maize, combined with a creamy, elegant complexity. The whiskey is recommended neat in a Glencairn glass, where the many layers of flavour can come into their own.

A deep golden colour with an orange sheen hints at what's coming: a full, oily pot still whiskey shaped by decades of experience with Oloroso sherry casks.

    Expert Review

Redbreast 15 Year Old is a Pure Pot Still Irish Whiskey matured in Oloroso sherry casks, bottled at 46%.

The whiskey clearly shows the sherry casks' influence with notes of dried fruit, sweet cherries, raisins and chocolate, melting together with toffee, vanilla and a touch of cardamom. The characteristic thick, oily texture Redbreast is known for emerges clearly towards the end of the nosing experience. The whiskey is non-chill filtered, preserving its full, creamy texture.

  • Redbreast Moscatel Wine Cask Edition Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey 46%
    Item no.: 2225426-5010

There's a particular kind of light that pours out of Málaga, and somehow it found its way into this glass. Redbreast has always known its way around a sherry butt — this time it went looking for sunshine instead.

    Expert's Description

Redbreast Moscatel Wine Cask Edition is a Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey, first matured in a combination of ex-bourbon casks and Spanish oloroso sherry casks, then finished for 16 months in Moscatel wine casks, bottled at 46%.

It's the fifth release in the acclaimed Iberian Series, and the first ever to use a Moscatel finish. The casks come from Bodegas Quitapenas in Málaga, a family-run bodega with roots stretching back to 1880, now led by fifth-generation custodians Marta Suárez Prieto and Víctor Suárez Onrubia. The Moscatel wine itself spent 24 months in American oak before the casks were emptied and shipped on to Midleton Distillery, where they've been shaping Redbreast's pot still spirit since June 2024.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Fresh and floral, with zesty tangerine and orange peel, dustings of nutmeg and a base of rich, creamy vanilla oak.

    Palate

Vibrant, ripe fruit meets toffee and honeycomb, with subtle dried herbs running underneath and the oak keeping everything anchored.

    Finish

Long and spiced, with the classic pot still character and a wine-seasoned sweetness that lingers well after the last sip.

About Redbreast Whiskey

Redbreast is distilled at the historic Midleton Distillery in southern Ireland and is today the world's best-selling Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey, a style unique to Ireland built on a mash of both malted and unmalted barley in the same still run. That gives it a notably spicier, oilier character than the lighter triple-distilled Irish style most people know, with notes of ripe fruit, spice and creamy caramel. For collectors, Redbreast is significant because the name has existed since 1912 and survived Irish whiskey's near-total collapse during the 20th century, while newcomers get one of the boldest, fullest introductions to the style available.

History & Background

The name Redbreast was given in 1912 by wine merchants W&A Gilbey, who bottled Midleton distillate under their own name after the small bird. As Irish whiskey lost its global dominance to Scotch during the 20th century and nearly disappeared entirely, the Pot Still style survived only thanks to a handful of bottlers like Gilbey who kept the tradition alive. When Irish Distillers consolidated the industry and later became part of Pernod Ricard, Redbreast was revived as its own brand in the 1990s and is today the name most responsible for restoring Single Pot Still as a recognised category.

History & Background

The brand has roots back to 1912 and is named after the small European robin, known for its distinctive reddish breast.

Production & Style

The whiskey is distilled by the Single Pot Still method with a mix of malted and unmalted barley, giving a complex, spiced character.

Signature Style

Complex, Spiced, Rich
The flavor offers a rich, spiced character with notes of dried fruit and a hint of sherry.
