Legend has it that the Romans once banned the local golden elixir of Cartagena - locals kept making it in secret from recipes passed down through generations, and from one of them came Licor 43.

    Expert's Description

Licor 43 (Cuarenta y Tres) is a Spanish liqueur at 31% ABV from producer Diego Zamora in Cartagena, spiced with 43 different ingredients - hence the name.

The liqueur was created in 1946 by the Zamora siblings together with Emilio Restoy, following a secret family recipe still known to only a few family members today. Its sweet flavour of vanilla and citrus makes it remarkably versatile and easy to use in drinks - try it in coffee, neat over ice, or as a Ginger 43, mixed with ginger ale and lime.

    Taste

The taste is sweet and round with a distinct character of vanilla and citrus, giving a lightly tangy finish and making the liqueur versatile in both drinks and desserts.
