Foursquare Plenipotenziario 12 Year is a Barbados Rum, a Single Blended Rum aged 12 years in ex-bourbon casks in the tropics and bottled at 60%.
The rum comes from Foursquare Distillery in Barbados under Richard Seale's leadership and was created in collaboration with the Italian rum enthusiast Luca Gargano of Velier. The term "Single Blended Rum" refers to the rum being a blend of batch and continuously distilled rum from the same distillery, a style unique to Foursquare and distinct from both pure single cask and multi-distillery blends. The 12 years of ageing in Barbados' tropical climate have given the rum significant intensity and depth.
At the high strength of 60%, the rum's full complexity appears without dilution, where both sweetness and spice come through strongly.
Tasting Notes
Nose
Vanilla, caramel and coconut flesh, with ripe mango, milk chocolate and a hint of sea salt and tobacco.
Palate
Vanilla, dark cherries, honey and orange, with cardamom and a hint of cigar smoke.
Finish
Sharp with orange zest, burnt sugar and earthy cask tones.
