Eleven years in Danish oak, then a journey through French cognac casks. A bold finish that takes Fary Lochan malt in a new direction.

    Expert description

Fary Lochan 2012/2023 Cognac Cask 11 Years Batch 01 is a Danish Single Malt Whisky distilled in 2012, finished in French cognac casks, and bottled in 2023 at 59%, 50 cl. Fary Lochan distillery in Give, Jutland, was founded by Jeff Callaway in 2009. The base maturation is in traditional oak casks, but the finish in cognac casks brings a fresh, fruit-driven complexity that defines this expression. Batch 01 is the first bottling of this expression. Non-chill filtered with natural colour.

    Did you know?

Using cognac casks for whisky finishing is rare in Denmark – Fary Lochan is one of the few distilleries actively experimenting with French brandy casks as a finishing vessel.

Frequently asked questions about Fary Lochan 2012/2023 Cognac Cask 11 Years Batch 01

    What makes Cognac Cask special?

The finish in French cognac casks gives the whisky a fruitiness and softness that sets it apart from classic single malts. Eleven years of maturation provides depth – the cognac finish provides the shine.

    Is it worth it?

Cognac Cask is a limited 11-year single malt bottling from one of Denmark's leading craft distilleries. The cask type, age, and limited production make it a compelling expression.

    What food pairs well?

White chocolate, fresh citrus desserts or mild cheese like brie complement the fruity profile. Try it at room temperature without water first.

What is finishing in cognac casks?

Finishing means the whisky completes its maturation in a different cask type – here cognac casks – for a shorter period. It adds aromas from the cognac-soaked wood without overpowering the base profile.

When was it distilled and bottled?

Distilled in 2012 and bottled in 2023 – eleven years old at bottling.

    Is there added colouring?

No, Fary Lochan uses natural colour and forgoes chill filtration to preserve flavour intensity.
