Deep yellow in the glass and scented with honey and ripe apples, this is the classic, sweet white Port many Portuguese pour chilled on a warm summer evening – often mixed with ice cubes and tonic.

    Expert's Description

Dalva White Porto is a Portuguese White Port from the Douro Valley, bottled at 19%.

Unlike the house's dry Dry White range, this is the classic, sweet style of white Port, where fermentation is stopped early with grape spirit to preserve natural sweetness. The wine matures for around three years in large vats, giving it its characteristic deep yellow colour and a touch of honey and nuts.

Behind the bottle stands Dalva, the brand of the Port house C. da Silva in Vila Nova de Gaia, founded in 1862 under the name Corrêa Ribeiro e Filhos. The house took on its current identity in 1933, when Clemente da Silva took over the firm after arriving from Brazil.

    Finish

The finish is soft and engaging, closing on a note of oak and ripe raisins.
