In Porto, people don't drink it out of duty - a cold afternoon simply calls for a glass of White Port and a slice of lemon.

    Expert's Description

Dalva Dry White is a Portuguese dry white Port, bottled at 19%.

Unlike the sweet, classic Port styles, the grapes are left to ferment longer before the wine is fortified with grape spirit - giving it a drier, more acidic profile that stands in marked contrast to a sweet Tawny or Ruby.

The wine is made from white Douro grapes such as Malvasia Fina, Viosinho, Donzelinho Branco and Gouveio, pressed without skin contact to preserve a pale, fresh character.

Dalva is the Port brand of the house C. da Silva, founded in Vila Nova de Gaia in 1933, and over the years the house has built a particular reputation for its White Ports, from the young, dry style to the rare, vintage-dated Colheita White.
