Ciroc Mango is a French Vodka built on French wine grapes, infused with natural mango flavour and bottled at 37.5%.

The foundation is once again the grape spirit from Maison Villevert, distilled five times and bottled without any ageing. The mango goes on after distillation, and the producer highlights the mouthfeel in particular: there is a clear, almost pulpy weight that sets it apart from the more citrus driven expressions in the range.

Mango is one of the hardest fruits to pin down in a spirit, because the aroma easily turns perfumed. Here it is held down by the dryness of the grape base, which cuts through the sweetness and pulls it back towards something more genuinely fruity. The vodka is gluten free.

Tasting notes

Nose

Ripe mango with the skin on, sweet and almost resinous. A small lift of lime sits underneath and keeps the aroma awake.

Palate

Full and thick in feel. The mango spreads across the whole tongue with tropical sweetness while the grape base slowly draws it dry again towards the end.

Finish

Warm and fruity with moderate length. The sweetness falls away evenly and leaves a lightly tart edge behind, closer to the skin than the flesh.

What does Ciroc Mango taste like?

Sweet and tropical with clear ripe mango. The weight is the first thing you notice, as it is markedly denser than the citrus driven expressions. Behind it sits a lightly tart edge closer to the skin than the flesh.

What is a Mango Tango?

The producer's own serve for this bottle. It combines the vodka with fresh lime juice, mango puree or fresh mango and a splash of mango juice. The result is thick, cold and very fruity, and it is one of the few drinks where more mango genuinely improves things.

Which other drinks work?

Is the texture different from the other flavours?

Yes, noticeably. The mango aroma delivers a denser, almost pulpy mouthfeel that the producer points out as well. Next to the pineapple expression it feels heavier, and next to the unflavoured Ciroc it feels close to rich.

Can it be used in a Mimosa?

Yes, and it is one of the best uses for it. A couple of centilitres in the bottom of a glass, topped with dry sparkling wine and perhaps a splash of orange juice. The bubbles carry the mango aroma up and the dryness of the wine keeps the sweetness in check.

Should it be served cold?

Yes, but not straight from the freezer. Fridge temperature is ideal, keeping the aroma open, whereas anything colder makes the mango nearly impossible to find. In mixed drinks it copes fine over plenty of ice.

Is there fruit pulp in the bottle?

No, the liquid is clear. The weight comes from the aroma and from the texture of the grape base, not from puree or particles. If you want pulp in the drink you have to add fresh mango or puree yourself, which the producer also suggests.
