Near Flemming, close to Vejle, lies Christianelund. The Gold family planted their first vines in 2014 - the original plan was horses, but the family grew to six children, and a vineyard came instead. Solaris Øst is named after the east-facing plot, where the grapes are woken by the morning sun.
Expert's Description
Christianelund Gold 2021 Solaris Øst is a White Wine from Christianelund Vingård in Denmark made from the Solaris grape, bottled at 11.7% ABV.
Solaris is a hybrid grape developed in 1975 in Freiburg by researcher Norbert Becker - bred specifically for climates like Denmark's, which sit right on the edge of what grapevines can handle. At Christianelund, the Solaris plots are split into two sections, one facing west and one facing east, and this bottle comes from the east-facing plot, where the grapes get morning dew and the cooler early sun. That gives the wine a touch more tension in the acidity than its western sibling.
Tasting Notes
Nose
Gooseberry and citrus, with a touch of elderflower - slightly sharper in outline than you usually see from Solaris.
Palate
Fresh and crisp, with fine tension and a touch of green apple.
Finish
Clean and refreshing, with the acidity being the last thing to linger.
Serving & Food Pairing
Serve chilled at 8-10°C in a white wine glass. The fresh acidity makes it a natural match for fish, shellfish and chicken - or enjoy it as a light aperitif.
