Near Flemming, a little way from Vejle, lies Christianelund. The Gold family actually planned to keep horses when they took over the place in 2003 - but the family grew to six children, and vines went into the ground instead. Solaris Vest is named after the west-facing plot, where the grapes catch the evening sun.
Expert's Description
Christianelund Gold 2021 Solaris Vest is a White Wine from Christianelund Vingård in Denmark made from the Solaris grape, bottled at 11.7% ABV.
Trine and Anders Gold planted the first 1,000 vines in 2014, with more following in 2015 and 2017. Solaris is a hybrid grape developed in 1975 in Freiburg by researcher Norbert Becker - bred specifically for climates like Denmark's, which sit right on the edge of what grapevines can handle. At Christianelund, the Solaris plots are split into two sections, one facing west and one facing east, and this bottle comes from the west-facing plot, where the grapes ripen in the afternoon and evening sun.
Tasting Notes
Nose
Gooseberry and citrus, with a touch of elderflower.
Palate
Fresh and crisp with good tension, the fruit staying in the pale end of the spectrum - green apple and citrus.
Finish
Clean and refreshing, with the acidity being the last thing to linger.
Serving & Food Pairing
Serve chilled at 8-10°C in a white wine glass. The wine's fresh acidity makes it a natural match for fish, shellfish and chicken - and it also works nicely as a light aperitif.
