A - Z Rosé Wine

  • Bottle of 11th Hour Cellars White Zinfandel rose wine from California
    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197280276

The name is a nod to winemakers who insist on harvesting right up to the last possible moment - the "11th hour" - to squeeze maximum ripeness out of the grapes before the weather turns.

    Expert's Description

11th Hour Cellars White Zinfandel is a Rose Wine from California, USA, made from Zinfandel with an alcohol content of 11%. The grapes come from the areas around Sacramento and Lodi in the northern San Joaquin Valley, where sandy loam soil, humid conditions and cool breezes from the Sacramento Delta give the grapes slow, cool nights. This creates optimal conditions for Zinfandel's aromatic expression and the characteristic fruitiness the White Zinfandel style is known for.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Raspberry, strawberry and red berries on the nose.

    Palate

Round and soft on the palate with a charming sweetness, balanced by a lightly dry finish.

    Finish

The finish is short and fruity.

    Serving & Food Pairing

Serve chilled at 8-10°C in a rose wine glass. Pairs with spiced dishes, pizza, grilled food, or works as a relaxed aperitif on the patio.

    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197280290

Jumilla is better known for its powerful, sun-drenched red wines than for rose - but Bodegas Bleda, one of the region's most modern wineries, shows with Castillo de Jumilla that the appellation's Monastrell grape also has a lighter, summery side.

    Expert's Description

Bodegas Bleda Castillo de Jumilla is a Rose Wine from Jumilla, Spain, made from Monastrell with an alcohol content of 13%. Jumilla DOP lies in south-eastern Spain, where a hot, dry climate and the hardy Monastrell grape have traditionally provided the basis for powerful red wines, but Bodegas Bleda also taps into the grape's potential for a lighter, fresh rose. The wine is sealed with a screw cap, ensuring the freshness the style calls for without risk of cork taint.

  • Bottle of Dalva Rose with pink label
    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197279937

Pink in the glass and scented with fresh strawberries and raspberries, this Port is a completely different experience from the dark, heavy styles most people associate with the Douro Valley – made to be enjoyed chilled on a summer evening.

    Expert's Description

Dalva Rose is a Portuguese Rosé Port from the Douro Valley, bottled at 19%.

Rosé Port is made the same way as Ruby Port and from the same red grapes, but the skins get only brief contact with the must – just enough to give a pink colour, without the deep fruit concentration a Ruby would otherwise develop. The wine is blended from Tinta Barroca, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Francesa and Touriga Nacional.

Behind the bottle stands Dalva, the brand of the Port house C. da Silva in Vila Nova de Gaia, founded in 1862. The house took on its current identity in 1933, when Clemente da Silva took over the firm after arriving from Brazil, and has since expanded its range to include modern styles like this one.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The nose offers fresh strawberries and raspberries, with a floral touch and a hint of cherry.

    Palate

The palate is soft and sweet, but kept light by a clear acidity, with notes of honey and a hint of grapefruit.

    Finish

The finish is fresh and fairly short, closing on a last hint of red berries.
