Jumilla is better known for its powerful, sun-drenched red wines than for rose - but Bodegas Bleda, one of the region's most modern wineries, shows with Castillo de Jumilla that the appellation's Monastrell grape also has a lighter, summery side.
Expert's Description
Bodegas Bleda Castillo de Jumilla is a Rose Wine from Jumilla, Spain, made from Monastrell with an alcohol content of 13%. Jumilla DOP lies in south-eastern Spain, where a hot, dry climate and the hardy Monastrell grape have traditionally provided the basis for powerful red wines, but Bodegas Bleda also taps into the grape's potential for a lighter, fresh rose. The wine is sealed with a screw cap, ensuring the freshness the style calls for without risk of cork taint.

Did You Know?
The Monastrell grape used for Castillo de Jumilla is the same grape known as Mourvedre in France - but in the Jumilla area it has roots going back to before the phylloxera crisis, since the region's sandy soil made it resistant to the pest.
