Five extra years in the cask make a noticeable difference in Blackadder's Raw Cask range, and this 16 year old Trinidadian rum shows how the longer ageing builds depth on top of the raw, unfiltered style.
Expert Description
Trinidad 2005/2021 Blackadder Raw Cask 16 Year Finest is a Trinidad Rum from a single cask, aged for 16 years and bottled at 64.7%.
Like the rest of the Raw Cask range, the rum is bottled by Blackadder International, the family-run Scottish bottler founded in 1995 by Robin Tucek, without any filtration or added colour. Compared to the distillery's younger 11 year release, this rum has spent five extra years in the cask, giving oak and spice more time to penetrate the spirit and round out the powerful Trinidadian style. The rum was distilled in 2005 and bottled in 2021 at a natural cask strength of 64.7%.
The result is a deeper, more rounded rum than its younger sibling in the range, where dark fruit and spiced oak meet a long, warm finish with a hint of tobacco.
