The story starts in 1616, when merchant Jan de Willum was inspired by the exotic spices trading ships brought home from the Danish colony of Tranquebar in India, creating a private gin recipe that has since become the house's signature.
Expert's description
Tranquebar Christmas Spiced Gin 1616 is a Danish spiced gin based on Jan de Willum's original recipe from 1616, bottled at 48%.
The gin is built on classic Christmas spices such as cinnamon, vanilla, cardamom, cloves and star anise, merging with lime, lemon and wild juniper.
Production now takes place at the Royal Dirkzwager Distillery in Schiedam, Holland, a distillery founded in 1879, while the recipe still comes from Jan de Willum's family archive.
Only a few thousand bottles are produced at a time, making this Christmas edition a seasonal specialty.
