The gin is distilled in the old winery at Buller Wines in Rutherglen, north-east Victoria, founded by Reginald Langdon Buller in 1921. The name Three Chain Road comes from a historic stock route that connected Melbourne to New South Wales via customs houses at Wahgunyah and Corowa.

The base of classic gin botanicals is joined by a powerful shiraz wine from the Heathcote wine region, giving the gin a deep, dark berry character and a lightly peppery note that clearly draws on the estate's winemaking craft.
