The palate is clearly where this whisky does best. Lovely intense, powerful sherry flavours. A touch of bitterness at the very end. Sometimes that can get to be too much, but I think they manage to balance it so the whole thing simply tastes good. The only criticism is that it disappears from the mouth a bit fast. But then you just have to taste again. For me the palate is the biggest plus in this whisky. Super lovely and balanced.

Old Perth Double Sherry Wood.
You quickly smell that this whisky has had plenty of sherry cask. It is not overpowering, though, so you can nose it many times without it becoming too much. The whisky has matured in both a Pedro Ximénez and an oloroso sherry cask. Hence double wood. On the palate it is darker. Raisin, fig, dark chocolate, a little coffee. Again they have balanced the whisky well. Tastes lovely without becoming dull. A slightly short finish again. But that does not matter, because then you just taste again. The palate is once more the greatest strength in this whisky.

Again and again I am positively surprised at how good blended whisky can be. I would be delighted to get one of these whiskies as a gift or simply buy it for my own enjoyment. For me Old Perth Double Sherry Wood is the one I prefer of the two. It feels a little more intense and interesting on the palate. So the recommendation from here is that exploring blended whisky is well worth it.

Old Perth Palo Cortado is a good example of a young whisky that works. On sipping you get an explosion of flavour and then it disappears again a short while later. This is a whisky that can take being messed with. An ice cube in a tumbler on a warm summer day in the garden will not ruin the experience, since the focus is on a few powerful notes. Of course the strong impression will be dampened a little, and I would naturally recommend experimenting with how you personally enjoy a glass of Old Perth Palo Cortado best.
