When the cask strength trend truly hit the rum world in 2016, Rum Nation answered with Rare Rums, a small-batch series in which this Guyana Diamond cask was among the first.
Expert Description
Rum Nation Rare Rums 2005/2016 Small Batch Cask Strength Guyana Diamond is a Guyana Rum from a single batch, aged for 11 years and bottled at 58.6%.
The rum is produced by Rum Nation, the Italian independent bottler, and comes from the Diamond distillery in Guyana, where it was distilled from molasses on a double metal column still. The Rare Rums series launched in 2016, when Rum Nation began seriously catering to the growing demand for cask strength releases, and this 2005 vintage, aged for 11 years, was one of the early releases in the series with a total yield of just 473 bottles.
The result is a heavy, rich rum, where a smoky, chocolatey character meets dried fruit and a deep ruby-red colour from its long cask maturation.
Tasting Notes
Nose
Smoky chocolate, dried fruit and light pepper spice.
