Sugarcane juice instead of molasses, and a solera system borrowed from the world of sherry – it is no accident that Ron Zacapa 23 has become one of the world's most recognisable rums.
Expert description
Ron Zacapa 23 is a Ron de Guatemala, composed through a Sistema Solera and bottled at 40%.
Unlike most rums, Ron Zacapa is made from fresh sugarcane juice rather than molasses, and the rum matures at a facility in Guatemala's highlands, where the natural cooling affects the maturation. The solera system, in which younger and older rums are gradually blended through stacked casks of American oak, sherry and Pedro Ximénez wine, gives Ron Zacapa 23 its characteristic, layered sweetness.

Did you know?
Ron Zacapa was created in 1976 to mark the centenary of the town of Zacapa in Guatemala, and the rum is deliberately matured at a high-altitude facility, where the natural cooling makes maturation slower than traditional Caribbean ageing at sea level.
