At the foot of an active volcano in Nicaragua sits a distillery that distills five times, only to end up with something that still tastes of the warm, volcanic soil.

    Expert description

Flor de Caña 7 Year Gran Reserva is a Rum from Nicaragua, distilled five times and matured for 7 years in American bourbon casks, bottled at 40%.

The rum comes from the Flor de Caña distillery in Chichigalpa, founded in 1890 at the foot of the San Cristóbal volcano and still family-owned in its fifth generation. The location on the volcanic "Ring of Fire" provides unusually mineral-rich soil and a hot climate that accelerates maturation. The rum is distilled five times from sugarcane molasses and slowly matured for seven years, giving it a depth normally associated with older rum. The distillery also runs on 100% renewable energy.
