Pinot Noir is a shy, fragile grape - its aroma vanishes if the glass is wrong. Riedel Vinum Bourgogne Rouge has one of the most extreme bowl shapes in the whole line, precisely because red Burgundy demands it.

    The Expert's Description

Riedel Vinum Bourgogne Rouge is a machine-blown Red Wine Glass in Crystal Glass from the Austrian glassmaking house Riedel, designed specifically for delicate, aromatic reds such as Burgundy and Pinot Noir.

The glass belongs to the Vinum line, which Georg J. Riedel drew up in 1986 to make varietal-specific glassware available to everyday wine lovers, not just restaurants and collectors. If you still need the bottle itself, browse our range of Red Wine.

    Design & Material

The bowl is noticeably wider and lower than on the Bordeaux glass, with a large surface area that gives Pinot Noir's delicate, volatile aromas room to rise. The rim is narrower, so the scent gathers before it reaches the nose.

    Use & Recommendation

The glass is built for Burgundy, Pinot Noir and similar light to medium-bodied reds, where finesse matters more than power. It is dishwasher safe and can go straight into the dishwasher along with the rest of the Vinum glasses.

    Did You Know?

The wide, low bowl typical of Burgundy glasses exists because Pinot Noir's aromas are far more volatile than those of a full-bodied Bordeaux. The larger the surface the wine meets, the more of that delicate scent unfolds before it fades.

Frequently Asked Questions about Riedel Vinum Bourgogne Rouge

Why is the bowl so wide and low on this glass?

The shape gives Pinot Noir's delicate, volatile aromas a large surface to unfold on, before the narrower rim gathers the scent toward the nose.

Does the glass only suit red Burgundy?

No, it works well for most Pinot Noir-based wines and other light to medium-bodied reds, wherever they come from.

Can the glass go in the dishwasher?

Yes, the glass is dishwasher safe like the rest of the Vinum line.

What's the difference between this glass and the Bordeaux glass in the same line?

The Burgundy glass has a wider, lower bowl for delicate, aromatic reds, while the Bordeaux glass is taller and narrower, built for full-bodied, tannic styles.

Can I also find red wine to go with the glass?

Yes, take a look at our Red Wine selection if you need a bottle of Burgundy or Pinot Noir.

Where can I see the rest of Riedel's glassware?

You will find the whole range in our Riedel Glassware selection.
