The Riedel Sommeliers Grand Cru Bordeaux 4400/00 is a hand-blown wine glass from the Austrian glassmaker Riedel's Sommeliers line, made from crystal glass. Sommeliers is built on the idea that a glass's shape can actively change how a wine tastes – a notion taken for granted in the wine trade today, but genuinely new when the line was developed. The Bordeaux Grand Cru glass is built for the classic Bordeaux grapes, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and you'll find more of the wines it suits in our range of Red Wine.
Design & Material
The large bowl is hand-blown in a single, continuous motion, which demands an experienced glassblower – the bigger the glass, the harder it is to keep the glass wall evenly thin all the way round. The wide base gives a powerful red wine room to aerate, while the narrowed opening at the top gathers the aromas before they reach the nose.
Use & Recommendation
The glass is built for full-bodied Bordeaux grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, but also works well for other powerful red wines that need room to develop. Always wash by hand in warm water, never in a dishwasher, which can weaken the thin crystal over time.
