This tasting is entirely whiskies from Signatory. They are masters at finding exactly the right whiskies for those of us who love whisky. And at a really sensible price too. Many of their bottlings sit at a price level everyone can join in on, while still being top whisky you get your hands on. What's not to like.

Ben Nevis 2014 Signatory Vintage 9 Year Old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky 70 cl 46%

On the nose there is lovely fruit of apple, grape and pear. Then it shifts to slightly darker notes of dried fruit. The whisky has spent 9 years in 2nd fill oloroso sherry butts. It smells really nice and pleasant as a result.
The palate is full of sweetness, with a touch of bitterness at the very end. The fact that the strength is 46% does nothing to hold it back. Quite the opposite. It is lovely to drink without the alcohol steamrolling the impressions. It comes in a special bottle that looks great standing out in the whisky collection.

Bunnahabhain 2013 Staoisha 11 Year Old Signatory Vintage Oloroso Sherry Butt Single Islay Malt Whisky 46%

Now there is smoke for all the money. Even though Bunnahabhain is really known for its unpeated whisky, I feel like I keep running into their peated ones. When they make peated whisky it is usually really good. This whisky hits the mark too. For me a slightly fun combination of the smoke and the notes from the sherry cask. It is not overwhelming, but still enough to satisfy most peatheads.
The palate starts smoky, then moves over into something more dark-chocolate-like. Again the "low" strength of just 46% is great. You can taste the different notes fairly easily, which is really lovely. A little gem for anyone into smoke. Presented once more in the handsome decanter bottles.

Longmorn 2012/2024 Signatory 12 Year Old Single Speyside Malt Whisky 57.8%

This Longmorn is from their Signatory Vintage range. The whisky has a fine nose. It is not so forceful, more refined. You have to adjust the nose a little to pick up everything. Fruit such as melon and apricot. But very restrained. A touch of wine gum. Not at all cloying, just pleasant. The palate really kicks through on fruit notes. I almost think of fruit salad. The alcohol cannot be felt at all even though we are all the way up at 57.8%. The palate is at full speed while the nose has been turned down a notch. A lovely dram that surprises with an intense flavour.

Secret Speyside Macallan 2011/2024 Signatory Vintage 13 Year Old 100 Proof Single Malt Scotch Whisky 57.1%

The last whisky tasted is a secret Speyside whisky. It is not so secret, though, that you cannot tell it is a Macallan. It does not say so directly on the bottle, but you can see a small "m" in brackets on the label. The price is entirely human and not overpriced like everything else Macallan. The nose is really pleasant with clear signs of time in a 1st fill oloroso sherry butt. Dried fruit, chocolate and raisin. The palate is really powerful and moves into a sweet ending. The alcohol keeps hammering away and is perfectly obvious. It prickles quite a lot on the tongue and therefore gives a fairly long finish. For me this is a special Macallan that stands out from the others in their range.

Signatory really does have a lot of lovely whiskies. I can only recommend exploring their huge range. The price is sensible and the quality is top notch.
