In Mexican folklore, a tiger's eye is a symbol of luck, believed to protect whoever carries it. Ojo de Tigre borrows that name for a mezcal that blends two agaves from two different corners of the country into one bottle.

    Expert Description

Ojo de Tigre Joven is a Mexican Joven Mezcal at 37% ABV, produced by Casa Ausencio León in Tlacolula de Matamoros, Oaxaca.

"Joven" means young, and describes mezcal that has not rested in a cask. Ojo de Tigre Joven is built on two sustainably grown agaves: the alluring Espadín from Oaxaca's lush valleys and the rarer Tobalá from the mountains of Puebla. The brand was created in collaboration with Mexican actor and producer Luis Gerardo Méndez.

The agave hearts are roasted underground in stone-lined pits, milled with a traditional tahona, and naturally fermented before the mash is double-distilled in copper alembic stills.

    Tasting Notes

    Palate

Sweet at the start, with cooked agave sweetness, herbal notes and gentle smoke that give way to citrus fruit and a fresh hint of cucumber.

    Finish

Soft and refreshing, with a trace of the gentle smoke lingering.
