In Salzburg, where Mozart's music still seems to hang in the air, rows of steel tanks quietly age a liqueur that carries the composer's name forward. Here, roasted coffee meets Belgian chocolate in a recipe that has made Mozart Distillerie one of Austria's most decorated liqueur houses.

    Expert Description

Mozart Chocolate Coffee is an Austrian Cream Liqueur made from Belgian chocolate, coffee and cream, bottled at 17%.

The bottle comes from Mozart Distillerie, founded in Salzburg in the mid-1950s and named after the city's most famous son. The Coffee variant is a permanent part of the range and brings together two of the world's most loved flavours in one bottle: cocoa and coffee.

The liqueur is made through cold maceration of cocoa and vanilla, with precise processing temperatures and careful blending — what the distillery calls the Mozart method — aimed at a consistent, rounded taste from bottle to bottle. The base is a sugar-beet spirit, enriched with Belgian chocolate, roasted Arabica coffee beans, cream and Madagascan vanilla.

The result is full-bodied and creamy without tipping into sickly sweetness — a liqueur built to balance bitter coffee against chocolate's natural sweetness.

    Taste

The nose offers intense cocoa notes alongside freshly roasted coffee and a hint of vanilla. On the palate it's full-bodied and creamy, with a balanced blend of dark chocolate, strong coffee and a restrained sweetness, finishing long and smooth with cocoa and a last trace of espresso.

    Did You Know?

Before Mozart Chocolate Coffee is bottled, it rests in steel tanks fitted with loudspeakers that play Mozart's music for a full 24 hours — a technique the distillery calls "sound-milling", which helped earn the house the title of IWSC Liqueur Producer of the Year in 2020.

Can Mozart Chocolate Coffee be used in cocktails?

Is Mozart Chocolate Coffee a good gift?
