Loch Lomond golf whisky

Loch Lomond golf whisky

To celebrate their partnership with The Open, golf's original championship, the Loch Lomond distillery has created The Open Special Edition.

This release honours the 153rd Open at Royal Portrush in Ireland and is designed to explore the influence of rich, ripe Tuscan Chianti wine casks on Loch Lomond's distinctive style.

They have made two distinctive editions:
Loch Lomond 22 years The Open Course 2025 153rd Royal Portrush Single Malt Scotch Whisky 46.7%
Loch Lomond 153rd Open Royal Portrush 2025 Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky 46%

The contents of The Open Special Edition single malts come exclusively from new make off our distinctive straight-neck stills, then matured in American oak casks to create our characteristic style of fruit, honey and gentle smoke. A number of hand-selected casks are then finished in first-fill Chianti wine casks, which adds layers of rich, ripe flavour to the distillery's signature style.

The Open Special Edition single malt whisky is not chill filtered, to preserve its natural character exactly as nature made it. Listen to our podcast here:

Loch Lomond Whiskies has been the official whisky sponsor of the golf tournament The Open since 2018, one of the most prestigious golf tournaments in the world. The partnership between Loch Lomond and The Open has created a strong synergy between whisky and golf, where both worlds represent tradition, craft and a passion for the sublime.

As part of the sponsorship, Loch Lomond Whiskies has launched a series of exclusive The Open Special Edition bottlings, often in collaboration with famous golfers such as Colin Montgomerie and Darren Clarke. These special releases are made to celebrate the finesse of golf and Scottish whisky craft, and they offer a distinctive tasting experience through carefully chosen casks and maturation methods.

The synergy between whisky and golf arises naturally, since both have deep roots in Scotland and a strong cultural connection to the country's rich history. Golf is about precision, patience and an understanding of the natural landscape - values that are also reflected in the art of whisky making. A good whisky, like a good golfer, needs time, expertise and the right conditions to develop its full character.

At The Open, Loch Lomond Whiskies has had a presence not only through special editions but also through exclusive tastings, events and storytelling, where spectators and players can immerse themselves in the worlds of both golf and whisky. This partnership has strengthened Loch Lomond's position as one of the leading whisky producers in Scotland and cemented the connection between two of the country's most iconic exports.

Over the last 5 years Loch Lomond has become one of the 25 fastest growing single malt brands in the world.* The distillery has built a loyal international following through its portfolio of golf-inspired whiskies and partnerships with the sport's elite and important figures such as Colin Montgomerie, Lee Westwood and Iona Stephen. Loch Lomond was founded in 1814 and can trace its roots back to Littlemill Distillery, which dates from 1772 and is thought to be one of the oldest distilleries in the world.

Loch Lomond's current malt and grain distilleries on the shores of the famous loch of the same name were built in the 1960s and use the most inventive technology in the industry to create a collection of spectacular whiskies with a character all their own.
