Pull the cork on a bottle of Kirk & Sweeney and you get more than a dram - you get a piece of prohibition-era rum-running history, hidden in the cork itself.

    Expert Description

Kirk & Sweeney Reserva is a Rum from the Dominican Republic, a blend of rums aged 3 to 14 years in American and French oak casks and bottled at 40%.

The rum is produced by J. Armando Bermudez & Co. in Santiago de los Caballeros and named after the famous schooner Kirk and Sweeney, used in the 1920s to smuggle rum from the Caribbean into the USA during prohibition. The blend of younger and older rums from 3 to 14 years gives the bottle its mahogany colour and full, layered character.

Kirk & Sweeney Reserva is made from traditional sugarcane molasses and carefully aged in American and French oak casks, which help give the rum its characteristic depth of dried fruit and toasted wood.
