Only a small number of bottles from this vintage ever reached Denmark. 2008 Vintage is one of the lesser-known chapters in Kilchoman's early history — a whisky that never got much attention, but still carries all the raw energy from the distillery's first years.

    Expert's description

Kilchoman 2008 Vintage is an Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 7 years old and bottled at 46 %.

The whisky was distilled in 2008 and bottled in 2015, giving it seven years of maturation — longer than many of Kilchoman's other early releases. Only a limited number of bottles were allocated to the Danish market, making it one of the more rarely seen vintages from this period.

With seven years of maturation behind it, 2008 Vintage shows a more rounded character than the younger 3 and 4 year old single cask releases from the same period, while retaining the fresh, citrus-tinged smoke that defines Kilchoman's style.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Ripe apples and honey meet a distinct but balanced peat smoke, with a hint of vanilla.

    Palate

Round and full, with caramel and sweet malt that slowly gives way to a warm, spiced smoke.

    Finish

Medium length, dry and smoky, with a final trace of citrus peel and oak.

Frequently asked questions about Kilchoman 2008 Vintage Islay Single Malt Whisky

Why is 2008 Vintage hard to find?

Only a limited number of bottles from this vintage were allocated to the Danish market, making it one of the rarer releases from Kilchoman's early history.

How does a 7 year old Kilchoman from this period taste?

It's more rounded than the younger single cask releases from the same year, but still retains the fresh, citrus-tinged smoke that defines the distillery's style.

Is this whisky a good investment?

It belongs to an early and limited part of Kilchoman's history, which historically makes this type of bottle rarer over time.

What makes 7 years of maturation different from 3-4 years at Kilchoman?

The longer maturation gives the peat smoke more time to soften through contact with the wood, resulting in a rounder, more balanced whisky.

Should this whisky be served neat or with water?

Try it neat first to experience the full character, then add a few drops of water if you want to open up the fruit and vanilla notes.

When was this whisky distilled and bottled?

It was distilled in 2008 and bottled in 2015, giving a maturation period of seven years.
