Kilchoman 100% Islay 4th Release is an Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky, at least 5 years old and bottled at 50 %.

The 100% Islay series is unique even by Kilchoman's own standards: the barley is grown on the distillery's own land, floor malted on site, and distilled, matured and bottled without ever leaving the farm. That makes the series a genuine "Single Farm Single Malt" — a rarity in the whisky world as a whole. 4th Release is built from selected 5 year old first fill and refill bourbon casks from the distillery's own warehouse.

Because the barley here is more lightly peated than the malt Kilchoman normally buys in for its other releases, the 100% Islay series carries a different, more floral and delicate character than, say, Machir Bay — the smoke is still there, but it acts more as an undercurrent than a lead role.

Tasting notes

Nose

Delicate and floral, with soft fruit notes and pear drops that slowly give way to a light peat smoke.

Palate

Round and lightly sweet, where the peat smoke unfolds on the tongue and leaves a long, sweet finish with soft smoky tones.

Finish

Long and lingering, with a gentle smoke that never becomes dominant.
