Taiwan's subtropical climate and port casks — Concertmaster is Kavalan's best-known expression.

    Expert description

Kavalan Concertmaster Port Cask Finish Single Malt Taiwan Whisky is finished in port casks, giving a fruity, sweet character, bottled at 40%. This bottling is from 2013. Kavalan Distillery was founded in 2005 by King Car Group in Yuanshan, Yilan County, Taiwan, and was the country's first whisky distillery. The name Kavalan is drawn from the old name for the Yilan area and the name of its indigenous people. The distillery is located where cold air from the Xueshan Mountains meets humid Pacific breezes, giving a unique subtropical microclimate and access to mineral-rich spring water. Since its first product launched in 2008, Kavalan has won over 950 gold medals in international spirits competitions.
