Jura 21 Year Anniversary Whisky is a special edition created to mark the 200th anniversary of the Jura distillery. It was launched in 2010 and represents both the distillery’s history and its ability to craft complex and elegant whiskies. Jura is located on the small island of the same name, known for its harsh climate and dramatic landscape, and it is precisely these conditions that have helped shape the whisky. This anniversary edition has been matured for a full 21 years, giving it a depth and maturity that can only be achieved through long patience.

The flavor profile is rich and nuanced. On the nose, you encounter sweet notes of honey, toffee, and nougat, accompanied by a hint of nuts and malt. There is a soft and inviting aroma, balanced by freshness from citrus and a light touch of spice. On the palate, the whisky unfolds in layers of taste. Fruity tones of cherry, rhubarb, and dried berries blend with spices such as cardamom and saffron. At the same time, a deeper dimension emerges with licorice, walnuts, peanuts, and bitter chocolate. It has a full-bodied and almost wine-like character, thanks to finishing in sherry casks, including a special Gonzalez Byass Oloroso sherry cask from 1963, which adds unique complexity.

The finish is medium to long, leaving impressions of marzipan, bitter chocolate, and a touch of oak. There is a balance between sweetness and bitterness, making it both elegant and memorable. Jura 21 Year Anniversary is not just a whisky but a piece of history in liquid form. It was created to celebrate the distillery’s heritage and to be enjoyed slowly, allowing one to immerse in its many layers. It is also a highly sought-after bottle among collectors, as it was only released for the anniversary and is no longer in production.

The palate is then rewarded with hints of succulent maraschino cherries, citrus fruit and soft liquorice to complete this memorable masterpiece.

2010 marked a very special occasion for the Jura distillery, celebrating its 200th anniversary. To commemorate this event, Jura released a new and rather limited 21 year edition, which can be purchased directly from the island or through a few selected distributors. The distillery, founded in 1810, is the only distillery on the island and holds numerous awards for its single malts.

Distillery manager Willie Cochrane comments: "We at the distillery are immensely proud of this 200th anniversary edition. Not only is it an exceptional malt, it is also an exceptionally rare malt. Only a few hundred people worldwide will be lucky enough to be able to enjoy this delightful whisky matured in a vintage Oloroso Sherry cask" The unique vintage 1963 Oloroso Sherry casks from Gonzales Byass have done their part to create a rich and full-bodied masterpiece.
