When The Islay Rum Company opened its doors in 2022, this Inaugural Release marked a historic moment: Islay's very first rum ever.
Expert Description
Islay Rum Inaugural Release 2022 Geal is a Scottish Rum from Islay, unaged and bottled at 45%.
The rum is distilled by The Islay Rum Company in the former Hastie's Old Lemonade Factory in Port Ellen by distiller Ben Inglis, who uses dunder and wild yeast in a fermentation process lasting 168 hours, followed by distillation on a double-retort pot still. This Inaugural Release from 2022 is a clear, unaged pure single rum that shows the distillate's pure character without any wood influence. As the distillery's very first release ever, it marks a historic moment for Islay, an island otherwise known exclusively for its whisky.
The result is an intense, ester-rich rum, where tropical fruit meets a clear, funky character without any cask influence.
