Ten years in oak casks in Vila Nova de Gaia is enough for a Port to shift from young and fruity toward mature and nutty, without losing its freshness entirely. Graham's 10 Year Old Tawny lands right at the point where the two sides meet.
Expert's Description
Graham's 10 Year Old Tawny Port is a Portuguese Aged Tawny Port from the Douro Valley, aged in oak casks for around 10 years and bottled at 20%.
As with the house's other aged Tawny Ports, the 10 years is an average expression of a blend of casks of varying ages, put together by Graham's cellar master so the overall wine matches the age stated on the label.
The Port is aged oxidatively, where slow contact with air through the wood gives it its characteristic tawny colour and a flavour that moves from fresh fruit toward roasted nuts and dried fruit.

Did You Know?
Ten years in cask gives just enough time for the fresh berry fruit to give way to nutty and dried-fruit notes, without the Port losing the light freshness that still marks a younger age indication than 20 or 30 years.
